Rescue Organisations, Pounds and Shelters
Written by MuttSpace Administration
Tuesday, 11 December 2007

We’ve compiled a handy list of rescue and re-homing organisations for people who’ve lost a loved pet or those who are considering obtaining a rescued or surrendered shelter animal to add to your family.

It’s impossible for us to list all breed-specific rescue or welfare operations, so if our breed-specific rescue list doesn’t feature the breed you’re interested in, we suggest starting by Internet search or contacting your local club; i.e. Dalmatian Welfare is contactable through the NSW office club site: www.dalmatiansofnsw.org.au/rescue, and the Greyhound Adoption Program can be found www.gapnsw.org.au. Many of these organisations are still not-for-profit operations run by volunteers.  Another resource is DogsNSW.  By contacting them on (02) 9834 3022, they can recommend contacts for various dog clubs: www.dogsnsw.org.au.

Not fussy about breed, but want to still let your fingers do the initial walking? Then tap into www.petrescue.com.au  This central site makes it easy for potential adopters to find and save a rescue animal by outlining information from a vast pool of shelters and adoption agencies from around Australia.
