Meaty Tummy Warmer

A hearty meal to use left-over stock

I cook at home most nights and I have a well stocked pantry. It's stocked with staple ingredients like - canned tomatoes, passata, pasta and stock. I tend to buy chicken, beef and vegetable stock and have it on hand as I'm time poor. As much as I like to make my own stock, I like the convenience of having store bought stock on hand. Often I have stock left over and don't want to waste it so I either freeze it (in ice-cube trays) or put it to good use and make it into a dog food that supplements my dogs normal diet.

Ingredients
  • 500g basic mince (but not ‘pet’ mince)

  • 2 cups mixed frozen veggies (no onion, please)

  • 2 cups rice

  • water (to cover ingredients)

  • left-over chicken, beef or vegetable stock

Method

Heat large saucepan on medium to low heat. Break up mince into a large saucepan, cover with water and bring to boil. Add veggies, rice and more water if necessary (to cover) and stock. Simmer until rice is cooked. Allow to cool and serve at a tepid temperature either on its own or over dry pet food.

Freeze portions and use within 3 months.
